Maintenance
How do I clean my Occhio luminaires?
Cleaning Luna luminaires
Cean luminaires of the Luna series when they are switched off and cooled down. For cleaning, we recommend using the microfibre cloth supplied. Dust inside the glass sphere can be removed carefully with a feather duster. Do not touch the cone when doing this. Here you will find a detailed cleaning tutorial.
Cleaning surfaces
Clean Occhio luminaires only when they are switched off and cooled down to avoid residue sticking to the luminaire.
For cleaning all surfaces, use only soft materials, preferably microfibre cloths.
We recommend cleaning lacquered and anodised surfaces (matt white, glossy white, matt black, matt gold, matt chrome/matt silver) only using cleaning agents that don't contain alcohol additives, for example, glass cleaner.
If the matt-white surface is very dirty, we recommend careful cleaning with a pH-neutral and perfume-free hand soap.
To clean the high-quality metal of the phantom, shiny chrome, rose gold, bronze, phantom and black phantom surfaces and keep them free of streaks and fingerprints, we recommend using alcohol concentrate from the pharmacy. The alcohol concentration should be at 70 %.
Cleaning special materials
The natural materials of our luminaires, such as leather or marble, can be cleaned with special care products. When using cleaning products, please follow the manufacturer's instructions.
For cleaning the marble base of the luminaire, we recommend a combi-product that protects and cares for your marble plate at the same time.
The carbon arches of Mito floor luminaires and the canopies of ceiling and pendant luminaires made of Ascot leather can be treated with a leather care set.
Cleaning glass lenses
Series: Sento, Più, Più R, Più RS, io spotlights, lui, lei, Puro
Cleaning our glass lenses is a very simple process: in the case of light dirt, we recommend a dry cotton cloth and, if necessary, glass cleaner without added alcohol.
In the case of dirtier lenses, the lens can be removed and rinsed by hand with detergent and hot water or also cleaned in the dishwasher (not suitable for cone glass from the Più R and Più RS series). Vinegar essence also achieves very good results. If you have one, the lenses can also be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath
Cleaning of plastic lenses
Series: io 3d, io duna
The lenses, which are made of high-quality plastic, should be cleaned exclusively with a cotton cloth and, if necessary, clean water.
Our io 3d lenses (such as io tavolo or io sospeso) are not suitable for cleaning in the dishwasher. If they are very dirty, we recommend cleaning by hand with detergent without additives, such as a sensitive washing-up liquid. Under no circumstances should you clean the lenses with glass cleaners containing alcohol or spirits or with compressed air spray, as this can damage the lens.
Cleaning inserts
Inserts such as color filters or soft edge glass can be cleaned using a microfibre cloth and, if necessary, clean water.
Cleaning Divo glass spheres
Divo glass spheres can be cleaned in the dishwasher or rinsed by hand.
Afterwards, dry with a clean, lint-free cloth and, while wearing gloves, put them back into the holder as soon as possible, so that no dust accumulates inside.
Residual dust can be removed effectively with a compressed air spray.
How do I change my light source?
LED luminaires have a life time of approximately 50,000 hours, which is equivalent to approximately 40 years of normal residential use. Even if a luminaire's life time is reached, the individual LEDs do not go out, but instead gradually grow darker.
If an Occhio LED luminaire no longer works, this can be due to a variety of different causes.
If the luminaire fails, we recommend that you consult your specialist retailer. If they cannot find anything wrong with the application or installation, we'll be happy to take your luminaire back for repair and replace individual components such as LED chips.
For instructions on replacing halogen light sources, see our video tutorial on halogen light source replacement.
How do I convert my halogen luminaire to LED with clipLED?
The light sources for Occhio mains voltage halogen luminaires have a B15d socket. Light sources in this shape and with the B15d socket are available on the market as LED replacements. These light sources do not achieve the characteristics of the original halogen light source in terms of their brightness or the quality of their light.
With clipLED, Occhio offers the ideal replacement for the halogen light source – in terms of both brightness and quality of light.
The clipLED modules are available for all luminaires in the Sento series, for Puro heads from the halogen head/body system with a B15d socket and for Più spotlights with a G9 plug.
Please note:
Più halogen luminaires have a special plastic ring that is required exclusively for the use of halogen light sources. However, if you change to a clipLED module, this ring must be removed. This ensures that the lens and any required color filter fit easily into the luminaire head.
Unfortunately, clipLED does not provide an LED replacement for luminaires that use low-voltage halogen with a Gy6.35 base. The Sento/Puro lettura reading luminaires and Sento/Puro tavolo table luminaires are always low-voltage luminaires.
Mobile luminaires with high-voltage halogens, such as Sento / Puro terra, can in principle be converted with clipLED. Please note, however, that some models are equipped with dimmers that are not compatible with clipLED. This can be remedied by having the dimmer replaced by our service team. In this case, costs may be incurred for the conversion.

How do I change the glass and lenses of my luminaire?
The lenses of your Occhio luminaires can be replaced. With smaller lenses or flat glass, the lighting effect of your luminaire can always be changed – for example, to focus or widen the light.
The smaller lenses are placed behind the lens in the luminaire; the flat glasses are placed directly behind the lens and inserted together with it.
You will find detailed instructions on how to replace the lenses in the mounting instructions that come with your luminaire.
Mounting
Can I put an Occhio luminaire in my bathroom or kitchen?
With an IP value of IP20, our indoor luminaires are not certified for wet rooms. However, outdoor luminaires in the Sito series have an IP value of IP65 and are therefore suitable for wet rooms.
Kitchens and bathrooms are not considered wet rooms when used normally, so Occhio indoor luminaires can be used there.
In bathrooms, there are country-specific rules for the approval of 230-V outlets, regardless of the luminaire. Luminaires without a wet room protection class, i.e. with an IP value of IP20, may be installed in properly placed electrical outlets in the bathroom.
Placement above the hob may cause interference with the infrared sensor, as the heat may activate the sensor. In this case, the sensor can be deactivated.
How do I mount my Occhio luminaire?
Mounting instructions for Occhio luminaires can be found in our download section.
Suspended luminaires with height adjustment cannot be mounted directly on sloping ceilings. A wedge must be placed between the sloping ceiling and the luminaire's canopy, in the diameter of the luminaire canopy and with the specific angle of the roof slope. We recommend that you have this wedge made from wood by your local carpenter and painted in the ceiling color.
Occhio luminaires are available with a variety of mounting options. Surface mounting (up) works in all situations. This also applies to suspended luminaires without height adjustment up to a roof slope of 30°. Up luminaires are mounted directly on the wall or ceiling and connected to 230 V.
For mounting flat, pure and recessed luminaires, a suspended ceiling or cavity wall must be available for flush mounting.
For almost all Occhio luminaires, a solution can be found with a sideways inlet if the electrical outlet is not in the right place. For Mito volo and Mito soffitto, there is no sideways inlet for design reasons.
Detailed video tutorials on how to mount our luminaires are available for the following models:

My luminaire is hanging or standing crooked. What can I do?
For all suspended luminaires, it can help to pull the luminaire out once as far as it will go and then draw it back up so that the cables can wind up properly. If this is not enough, see the mounting instructions for your luminaire for more fine adjustment options.
Mito sospeso:
Behind each canopy is a rotary wheel, which allows a height adjustment of +/- 5 mm.
Mito volo:
Behind the magnetically attached cover in the canopy, you will find a slide control, which allows a fine adjustment of +/- 5 mm.
Sento sospeso:
If you look into the luminaire head from below, you will see that there are three Allen screws (2.0 mm Allen) at the point where the cables enter the head from above. These screws allow the height of the cables to be adjusted by +/- 5 mm.
Mito raggio and largo:
Between the luminaire ring and the luminaire body is a conical ring, which allows fine adjustment of the luminaire head for accurate, horizontal adjustment of the ring.
Operation
How do I operate my Occhio luminaire?
Gesture control
Most of our luminaires can be easily and intuitively operated by hand without touching the luminaire thanks to the »touchless control« feature. Depending on the design and series, luminaires can be dimmed, the distribution of direct and indirect light adjusted and the color temperature altered, all with just a gesture.
Here we explain in simple terms how gesture control works.
Gesture control can be deactivated in the head of Sento luminaires or on the Mito box.
Occhio air
With Occhio air, you can control your luminaire(s) individually or as a group via the Occhio air controller or app.
How do I synchronise my luminaires?
If several mounted luminaires are to provide exactly the same light (e.g. several suspended luminaires above a table), the luminaires can be synchronised with each other. No matter which luminaire you operate with a gesture, all luminaires in the group then switch synchronously.
For luminaires purchased in 2022 or later, synchronisation can be achieved via Occhio air. We show you how to configure luminaires, scenes and groups in the following video tutorials.
Occhio air tutorial – setting up the app and controller
Occhio air tutorial – configuring luminaires, scenes and groups
Luminaires without Occhio air can be retrofitted to enable synchronous gesture control as well. Luminaires purchased before 2022 may be able to be synchronised with a cable.
For more information, please feel free to contact your nearest Occhio store or specialist retail partner.
How do I use my luminaire with my home control system (smart home, DALI, KNX)?
Integration thanks to a simple switching signal
For individual luminaires, we recommend integrating them into the existing home control system by means of a simple switching signal. This is because many Occhio luminaires can be controlled directly on the luminaire and all can be controlled with Occhio air.
Control by gesture or Occhio air is the technically more sophisticated control option since they are specially adapted to the product.
This means that:
In a completely normal three-wire electrical installation, a switch and no dimmer must be installed.
In an existing control system with data lines or even wireless data transmission, a switch actuator must be installed. The interface to the luminaire is power on and power off.
This maintains all of the luminaires' functions. No further programming in the home control system is needed.
Full integration into home control systems
If you want to fully integrate Occhio luminaires into your home control system, there are two options:
1. Installation of an Occhio air/DALI gateway – a small device that is connected to the existing home control system with a DALI line to a DALI actuator and which is simultaneously connected to the Occhio air network via Bluetooth. The luminaires then appear in the Occhio air network and at the same time appear as devices in the home control system. Desired programming must be done in the network from which the settings are then to be retrieved – via the home control system or Occhio air network.
2. All Occhio luminaires are also available with a direct DALI connection. However, with this option, the gesture control, »up/down fading« and possibly »color tune« features are no longer possible (except where integrated with a DALI DT 8 standard). With this solution, remote power supply units must also be installed for all luminaires, except those in the Mito series (Occhio pro products).
Integration into home control systems, smart home systems, Siri, Alexa and Apple HomeKit is not a standard solution. However, it can be solved by a specialist reprogramming the existing home control system.
All of the solutions can also be found in even more detail in our "Occhio and KNX/DALI – solutions for building control systems" section.
Philipps Hue
Philipps Hue is a Bluetooth based system, just like Occhio air. Philipps Hue lights can be integrated into an Occhio air network. Occhio air luminaires, on the other hand, cannot be integrated into a Philipps Hue network, as functionalities would be lost there.
Occhio air
Occhio air is not working. What can I do?
Occhio air is a Bluetooth-based lighting control system based on Casambi.
The Occhio air app sends information to the luminaires via Bluetooth – and information is also exchanged between the luminaires.
Occhio air is a computer-based system – so, as with a PC, a restart often helps:
We recommend in the first instance disconnecting the luminaires from the power, so switch them off at the switch. If there is no switch and the luminaires are supplied with power continuously, remove and reinsert the fuse.
Closing and reopening the app can also help.
If the app is used by a variety of end devices, it may be necessary to update the network:
in the Occhio air app, select the "more" setting and click "Change network" in the bottom view. Then activate the "Refresh" icon at the top right.
Deactivating and re-activating Bluetooth can also help.
Our tutorials provide a good overview of how to set up and operate the Occhio air app:
Occhio air tutorial – setting up the app and controller
Occhio air tutorial – configuring luminaires, scenes and groups
How and where can the Occhio air module be used?
The Occhio air module is a small Bluetooth dimmer (trailing-edge phase cut dimming) that is connected upstream of the luminaire.
It can be placed in a hollow ceiling, flush-mounted box or switch box without the need for additional screw terminals. Wiring takes place directly in the module – phase and neutral in, dimmed phase and neutral out.
If none of these options are available, the »air« module can be mounted between the wall/ceiling and the luminaire using the »air« adapter.
Can I retrofit Occhio air?
All luminaires from Occhio can be retrofitted with Occhio air.
For luminaires in the Mito series, a corresponding Mito air box can simply be ordered and inserted into the canopy instead of the Mito set box. In Sento luminaires, the Bluetooth chip is permanently installed in the head, so the head of the Sento luminaire must be sent in to us to have Occhio air retrofitted.
All other Occhio luminaires and also all dimmable luminaires from other manufacturers can be integrated into the Occhio air network through an external Bluetooth module.
The »air« module is a small Bluetooth dimmer (trailing-edge phase cut dimming) that is connected to the power supply of the luminaire. The Occhio air module can be placed in a hollow ceiling, flush-mounted box or switch box.
If none of these options are available, the »air« module can be mounted between the wall/ceiling and the luminaire using the »air« adapter.
What is the difference between evolution and classic in terms of Occhio air?
Since 2021 there has been a new version of the Occhio air app (software) and our Occhio air luminaires (software + hardware).
The new version, evolution, has the following changes compared to the classic version:
classic: 126 luminaires per network | evolution: 256 luminaires per network
classic: 2 administrator levels | evolution: 3 administrator levels
Since a hardware update has taken place in Occhio air luminaires, it may not be possible to use older Occhio luminaires or Occhio air modules in an evolution network.
If you already have luminaires in your network, we recommend that you also set up the new luminaires as classic luminaires.

Light planning
How do I bring the ideal light into my home with Occhio luminaires?
The right lighting for a room depends on many factors.
Primarily, it is important for the optimal lighting of your rooms to include functional light above work surfaces, above tables, for reading and at the mirror.
Pendants over tables
When it comes to illuminating tables, you need one round suspended luminaire (Mito sospeso, Sento sospeso, io sospeso, lei sospeso) for each metre of table.
Mito volo 100 is sufficient for tables of length 160–200 cm, Mito volo 140 for tables 200 cm–240 cm.
The ideal suspension height above a table is 60 to 80 cm from the table.
For rooms with very high ceilings, Occhio offers suspended luminaires in customised lengths.

What's the difference between a lamp and a luminaire?
In the days of halogen, a "lamp" was the actual light source, i.e. the light bulb. The luminaire is the product that surrounds the light source and is the actual design product. Occhio LED luminaires are always a single unit comprised of both the light and the luminaire, which is why we call LED products luminaires.
Occhio ONE
General
What is Occhio ONE and what has changed compared with Occhio air?
Occhio ONE is the platform that brings together the new Occhio app, the air controller, gateways and other devices for lighting control and automation. Existing air networks and luminaires can still be used – Occhio ONE is fully backwards compatible. The main new features are the app with widgets, smart home connectivity via the Occhio gateway and KNX integration via the Occhio PRO gateway.
Do I need a gateway to use the Occhio app?
No. Local control runs via Bluetooth (Casambi mesh) and works without a gateway. You will need a gateway for remote access, voice control via Matter and KNX connectivity.
Which type of network do I need?
Gateways require a Casambi Evolution network. All luminaires you want to control via a gateway must be Evolution-compatible. Classic luminaires will continue to work in the app, but not in combination with a gateway.
Which smart home systems are supported?
With the Occhio gateway, you can connect Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa via Matter. Voice control also works via Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. For professional building automation, the Occhio PRO gateway with KNX is the right choice.
How many luminaires can a network hold?
An Occhio air network can include up to 255 luminaires. If a gateway is part of the network, this number drops to 254. Each separate network requires its own gateway – a gateway cannot belong to more than one network.
How is my data processed?
You can find up-to-date information on how your data is processed in our privacy policy in the new app. Simply open the menu on the left and tap ‘Privacy Policy’.
Getting started
What do I need to prepare before setup?
Have your Wi-Fi login details to hand and check that guest networks and client isolation are disabled in your router and that mDNS is enabled. Your smartphone must stay connected to the same Wi-Fi network throughout setup. Make a note of the admin password for your air network. During an Evolution update, do not interrupt the power supply to the luminaires and keep your smartphone close to them. For Apple Home, make sure iOS and your HomePod are up to date, and that iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication are enabled.
How do I transfer my existing Occhio air network?
- In the old air app, go to ‘More’ > ‘Network configuration’ > ‘Sharing options’ and check that ‘Password protected’ is selected.
- Create a backup if you wish.
- Close the air app – there is no need to uninstall it.
- Open the Occhio app, grant Bluetooth and network permissions and accept the privacy policy.
- Select your network from the list and enter the admin login details. The app then transfers all luminaires, devices, scenes and settings.
Which features are available after switching?
In addition to the familiar Occhio air features, the new Occhio app offers more intuitive control and entirely new features for greater personalisation, such as rooms and widgets. With an Occhio gateway, Occhio ONE also opens up new possibilities: connect your Occhio luminaires to smart home systems such as Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and control them by voice. Sensor configuration and compatibility with third-party devices will follow with version 1.4.0.
What are the system requirements?
The new Occhio app requires iOS 15 or later, or iPadOS 15 or later. On Android, you will need version 7 or later. The gateway needs a Wi-Fi network with internet access in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band.
Everyday use
What happens if the internet goes down?
Local control via Bluetooth continues to work. Remote access, voice control via Matter and cloud-based automations will be unavailable until the connection is restored.
Can I manage more than one home or network?
Yes. Use the menu on the left to switch networks or create a new home. Since version 1.2.0, networks in which you have admin rights are also displayed when you are not nearby.
Troubleshooting
My Occhio air network is not visible in the new app.
The most common cause is that the network is set to ‘Admin only’. The recommended solution: in the old air app, go to ‘More’ > ‘Network configuration’ > ‘Sharing options’ and select ‘Password protected’. Alternatively, sign in to the new Occhio app via ‘Log in to Occhio air’ using your admin login details.
Everything works locally, but remote access or voice control doesn’t.
In this case, the problem usually lies with the gateway, the internet connection or the cloud link – not with the luminaires. First check the gateway’s status LED and your home network’s internet connection. To find out whether the problem is local or cloud-related, test local control on the same network.
The Occhio app
General
What can the new Occhio app do, and how does it differ from the old Occhio air app?
The new app offers a more intuitive, modern user interface, a customisable home screen with widgets, the Magic wheel with live preview, rooms, improved groups and scenes, and Matter or KNX setup to integrate your Occhio luminaires into smart home or KNX systems.
Getting started
How do I sign in when I first open the app?
After downloading and opening the new app for the first time, grant Bluetooth and network permissions, accept the privacy policy, select your network from the list and follow the steps in the app. Once you have registered as a customer, enter the admin login details for your Occhio air network. If you have forgotten your password, you can set a new one via ‘Forgot password?’.
How do I find my way around the app?
The menu on the left (Occhio icon, top left) contains networks, account, app settings, and help and support. The menu on the right (three lines, top right) contains luminaires and devices, groups and rooms, widgets, scenes, network sharing and network settings. Swipe down on the home screen for quick access to all devices and scenes.
How do I control a single luminaire?
You control every function of a luminaire via the new Magic wheel. Use the on/off button to switch it on and off, and the Magic wheel to dim it. For »up/down fading«, use the vertical slider in the Magic wheel to shift the light upwards (indirect) or downwards (direct). For »color tune«, use the horizontal slider: move it to the right for warmer light and to the left for cooler light. For luminaires with electric height adjustment, select ‘Move’ in the Magic wheel to set the height.
How do I create a scene?
First, set the lighting the way you want it. Then open the menu on the right (three lines, top right), select ‘Create scene’, choose the luminaires, groups or rooms and tap ‘Next’. Finally, save the scene. Each luminaire can be part of as many scenes as you like.
How do I customise the home screen with widgets?
Press and hold an empty area of the home screen to open edit mode. Tap ‘Add widget’ and choose a category: Home, Rooms, Luminaires, Scenes, Groups or Special controls. You can move and resize widgets, and configure them via the cog icon. The network administrator designs the home screen, so it may look different from one network to another.
What is the difference between a group, a room and a scene?
A group brings together luminaires of the same type, such as several pendant luminaires above a table. A room reflects where luminaires are located, such as the kitchen or living room. Each luminaire can belong to only one group and one room. Scenes, on the other hand, can include any combination of luminaires. Use the sync button to apply the same lighting settings to all luminaires in a room.
How do I invite users, and what can they do?
Only the administrator can send invitations. Open the menu on the right, tap ‘Network sharing’ and set the access level. Then generate a PIN or send an invitation link. Users can activate scenes and change lighting settings, but cannot create or remove scenes, devices or groups.
What access levels are available for network sharing?
- Open: anyone with the app can see and control the network.
- Locked: access only with a 4-digit PIN set by the administrator.
- Invitation only: access only via a personal invitation link.
How do I switch between administrator and user?
- From administrator to user: first make sure that another device already has administrator rights – otherwise the network will be left without an administrator. Then open the menu on the right and select ‘Network settings’ > ‘Forget network’. The administrator on the other device can then send you an invitation via network sharing.
- From user to administrator: you cannot grant yourself administrator rights. An existing administrator needs to invite you.
How do I adjust the height of a Mito cosmo move?
Tap the luminaire to open the Magic wheel. The current height is shown in centimetres at the bottom. Tap the value and drag the slider up or down.
How do I remove a luminaire from the network?
Open the menu on the right and select ‘Luminaires & devices’. Tap the cog icon next to the luminaire, then ‘Details’ > ‘Unpair device’. If it was the last luminaire in the network, the app will show ‘No connection’ – this is expected. In this case, you can then delete the network under ‘Network settings’. The luminaire is now free to be added to another network.
Troubleshooting
I can’t sign in.
Use the admin login details for your air network, not a user password. Close any other apps running in the background on all devices and restart the app. If in doubt, reset your password – the email may take a few minutes to arrive, so please also check your spam folder.
The app keeps asking for my login details.
This usually happens when you use the old Occhio air app and the new Occhio app at the same time, as each app creates its own key for the network. Avoid using both apps in parallel and re-enter your login details. If the problem returns after an update, check your app version and contact our support team.
I can’t unpair a luminaire or gateway.
First check whether the device is still connected to the network. Then repeat the steps under ‘How do I remove a luminaire from the network?’. For a gateway, also check whether it is still paired in the old Occhio air app. If the problem persists, shake your smartphone firmly to report the bug.
I can’t adjust the height.
You set the height using the centimetre value in the Magic wheel – there is no separate menu item for it. If the slider does not appear or will not move, submit a bug report: open the Magic wheel, shake your smartphone firmly and send the report.
A scene or widget is missing.
The network administrator creates all scenes. If a scene is missing, ask the administrator to create it. The administrator also designs the home screen, including its widgets. In the meantime, swipe down on the home screen for quick access to all devices and scenes.
How do I report a bug?
On the screen where the bug occurred, shake your smartphone firmly and send the automatically generated bug report. Our development team will then look into it.
Occhio gateway
General
What can the Occhio gateway do, and who is it for?
The Occhio gateway is designed for private homes. It adds remote access, automations and Matter compatibility to your luminaires – enabling voice control and connection to smart home systems.
What do I need for Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa?
The gateway and the Matter hub must be on the same Wi-Fi network. For Apple Home, you need a compatible HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV. For Google Home, you need a compatible Google Home or Nest speaker or display. For Alexa, you need a compatible Echo speaker. You can tell whether your device is compatible by checking whether it supports the ‘Thread Border Router’ function. A guest Wi-Fi network with client isolation will not work.
Getting started
How do I set up the gateway?
- Install the Occhio app.
- Connect the gateway to the mains using the USB-C power adapter.
- The gateway will appear in the app for 10 minutes. If necessary, briefly disconnect it from the power supply to make it visible again.
- Within these 10 minutes, tap ‘Setup gateway’ and follow the instructions in the app.
How do I connect the gateway to Apple Home?
- In the Occhio app, open ‘Set up Matter’ via the menu on the right.
- The Matter code for your Occhio gateway is displayed there.
- Select the luminaires you want to appear in Apple Home.
- Define the special functions – the substitute objects for up/down fading and electric height adjustment.
- Open the Apple Home app. Add the Occhio gateway as a new Matter device by entering the Matter code or scanning the QR code under the gateway’s cover.
- Assign a room and a name.
How do I connect the gateway to Google Home or Alexa?
First set up Matter in the Occhio app, as described under ‘How do I connect the gateway to Apple Home?’. Then open the Google Home or Alexa app, add a new Matter device and enter the Matter code manually. For Alexa, select ‘Use numeric code’, as QR codes cannot be scanned there.
Are my Occhio scenes transferred automatically to smart home systems?
No. You need to create your scenes again on each platform.
- Apple Home: First activate the scene in the Occhio app. Then create a new scene in Apple Home with the relevant luminaires and save it straight away. Apple Home captures the current lighting settings.
- Google Home: Create an automation and set each luminaire individually.
- Alexa: Create a routine and set each luminaire individually.
Why are up/down fading and height adjustment missing in Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa?
Matter does not support these functions natively, so the app can create substitute objects if you wish. To do this, select the relevant options under ‘Set up Matter’ in the app: ‘Add up/down objects’ creates a second luminaire object for each luminaire with up/down fading, whose brightness slider controls the ratio between up and down light. ‘Add height control’ creates a blind object for height-adjustable luminaires. You can change these settings at any time.
How does remote access work when I’m away from home?
Remote access runs via the gateway and the internet. It requires the gateway to be online and a stable internet connection. You can use it to control luminaires, groups and scenes. Configuration, however, is only possible on site in the app: for technical reasons, you cannot create or change rooms, groups, scenes, timers or other settings remotely.
How do I change the gateway’s Wi-Fi network?
Press and hold the reset button on the Occhio gateway for about 2 seconds. In the app, open ‘Luminaires & devices’ in the menu on the right and go to the gateway settings. Then select ‘Change Wi-Fi’, choose the new network and enter the login details. Once connected, the status LED will stay lit.
Troubleshooting
The app can’t find the gateway.
- In the menu on the left, go to ‘App settings’ and check that ‘Show devices in pop-up’ is enabled.
- Open ‘Luminaires & devices’ in the menu on the right, tap the filter icon and select ‘Gateway’ as the device type.
- If the gateway is still paired in the old air app, close the Occhio app, unpair the gateway in the air app, wait 30 seconds and then close the air app. Open the Occhio app again and restart the search.
What do the LED signals on the gateway mean?
- Steady light: normal operation.
- Pulsing (‘breathing’): setup mode – follow the instructions in the app.
- Flashes 3 times: power supply problem. Check that the power adapter meets the requirements (5 V DC, at least 1.5 A) and replace the adapter or cable if necessary.
- Flashes 7 times: fallback error. Disconnect the gateway from the power supply and reconnect it. If the error persists, contact our support team.
- Alternating red: overheating. Unplug the gateway and let it cool down. Check whether it was covered.
I can’t connect to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa.
First check these three points:
- The gateway and the Matter hub are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- mDNS (Bonjour) is enabled in your router.
- You are not using a guest Wi-Fi network with client isolation.
The gateway still shows as ‘connected’ in the Occhio air app after a reset.
A factory reset only resets the gateway itself – the connection in the old air app remains. Remove it there as well: go to the device list, select the gateway and tap ‘Remove connection’. For the factory reset, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds until the LEDs flash briefly, then set up the gateway again.
Occhio PRO gateway
General
What is the Occhio PRO gateway, and how does it differ from the Occhio gateway?
The Occhio PRO gateway is designed for professional building automation. Alongside remote access and automations, it features a second USB-C port, allowing you to connect the gateway to your network by cable using the USB-C to Ethernet adapter. Combined with the KNX module, it also provides certified, bidirectional KNX integration.
What does the PRO bundle include?
The bundle includes the Occhio PRO gateway, the Occhio KNX module (DIN rail mounting, KNX/IP, programming in ETS) and the USB-C to Ethernet adapter. You need all three components to control Occhio luminaires via your KNX system.
What do I need for KNX integration?
You need a KNX bus (twisted pair) with a power supply, an IP network for the KNX module and the Occhio PRO gateway, and a Casambi Evolution network. Install the Occhio PRO gateway in a location with reliable Bluetooth coverage of all luminaires in the network.
Which KNX functions does each luminaire support?
Not all luminaires support the same functions. Gioia also offers a spot function. Mito cosmo move and Mito sospeso move feature electric height adjustment. The Sento, io, lui, Più and Sito series support on/off and dimming only. The functions you activate in ETS depend on the luminaire type. You can find the full compatibility table in chapter 8 of the KNX module manual.
How many objects and scenes can a KNX module manage?
A KNX module controls up to 45 Occhio objects (individual luminaires, groups and rooms) and up to 64 Occhio scenes. If you have several separate Occhio networks, each one needs its own Occhio PRO gateway and its own KNX module.
Getting started
In what order do I set up KNX integration?
- Plan: define luminaires, groups, rooms and scenes, and specify the functions for each luminaire type.
- Check the requirements: Evolution network, KNX bus, IP network and Bluetooth range.
- Install the bundle: mount the KNX module on the DIN rail and connect it to KNX and the LAN. Plug the Occhio PRO gateway into a power socket and connect it to the same LAN as the KNX module.
- Add the gateway in the app: use your admin access to add the Occhio PRO gateway and check the connection status.
- ETS: program the KNX module first. Import the device, configure the individual address and IP, create the objects and link the group addresses.
- Mapping in the app: then go to ‘Set up KNX’ in the menu on the right and assign the KNX objects to the Occhio objects.
- Final check: test push buttons, app and visualisation to make sure everything works.
Why do I need to program the KNX module in ETS before mapping?
Without the ETS download, the required mapping instance will not appear in the Occhio app. The order is therefore crucial: first program the KNX module, then map the KNX objects to the Occhio objects in the app.
How can I program the KNX module in ETS?
- Via the KNX bus: recommended if no IP connection is possible. You will need an additional interface, such as a USB interface.
- Via KNXnet/IP tunnelling: possible if the device already has a valid IP configuration. Select the device from the interface list.
- Via direct IP connection: the fastest option if the device already has an IP configuration and an individual address. Make sure this option is enabled in ETS.
How do I set up secure KNX commissioning?
When you add the first device with KNX Secure, ETS will ask you for a project password – make sure you keep it safe. You need the device certificate for each device: read the text code on the device or scan the QR code. In the device properties, enable ‘Secure Commissioning’ and add the certificate. During the first download, ETS replaces the initial key (FDSK) with a device-specific key. You can check the certificates under ‘Reports’ > ‘Project Security’.
How do I map KNX objects in the Occhio app?
In the Occhio app, you assign each KNX object to an Occhio object: a luminaire, group, room or scene. You can also assign individual functions. Each KNX object already carries its range of functions over from ETS.
How do I check whether the KNX integration is complete?
The integration is complete when push buttons, app and visualisation all show matching states. To confirm this, test the following:
- On/off and status feedback
- »color tune«, »up/down fading« and special functions
- Central off and global status
- Relative and absolute dimming
- Occhio scenes via KNX
Can I still change Occhio scenes after KNX integration without touching ETS?
Yes. You can activate Occhio scenes via KNX and adjust them in the app – without making any further changes to the KNX project. Status feedback is also sent back to KNX.
Troubleshooting
What do the LEDs on the KNX module mean?
- KNX LED – green: KNX bus voltage present. Flickering green: telegram traffic. Briefly red: communication error on the bus.
- IP LED – green: Ethernet link and valid IP configuration. Orange: Ethernet link, but no valid IP configuration (e.g. no DHCP server). Check the IP settings in ETS under ‘IP’.
- Mode LED – green: normal operation. Red: programming mode. Flashing red: device not programmed correctly. Repeat the ETS download.
The luminaire does not respond to a KNX command.
Check in ETS whether the function is enabled for the object. Also make sure the luminaire model supports this function (see ‘Which KNX functions does each luminaire support?’). For relative dimming or colour temperature changes, enable telegram repetition in the ETS bus connection – otherwise the command will not work reliably.
Secure KNX communication between two devices isn’t working.
Check that both objects support KNX Secure and have it enabled. The security setting of the group address must also match.
How do I reset the KNX module to factory settings?
- Disconnect the KNX bus connector from the device.
- Press and hold the KNX programming button.
- Reconnect the KNX bus connector while still holding the button.
Keep holding the button for at least 6 seconds until all LEDs flash briefly.
The module then has the individual address 15.15.255, no group addresses are linked, and the initial key (FDSK) is active again.
Occhio air controller
General
What can the air controller do?
The air controller lets you control your luminaires directly by hand. It has four programmable buttons you can use to activate scenes such as Morning, Focus, Cosy or Welcome. You can also adjust dimming, »color tune« and »up/down fading« without a smartphone.
Is the air controller compatible with the new app?
Yes. The air controller is fully compatible with the new Occhio app, and you can configure it directly in the app.
What finishes and dimensions does the air controller have?
The air controller measures 80 × 80 × 12 mm, or 15 mm deep with the optional wall bracket. It is made of aluminium and painted plastic and comes in white matt/gloss, black matt/gloss, black matt/chrome matt and white matt/chrome matt.
Everyday use
How long does the battery last, and how do I replace it?
The air controller runs on a 3 V CR2430 lithium coin cell. Battery life depends heavily on how often you use it, so we cannot give a general figure. To replace the battery, open the battery cover on the back of the controller, pull out the battery compartment and insert a new battery. Dispose of the old battery separately from household waste.
Can I mount the controller on the wall or use it as a portable device?
Both are possible. You can mount it on the wall using the optional magnetic wall bracket. Alternatively, you can use it as a portable controller – it also has a magnetic back.
Troubleshooting
The controller isn’t responding.
First check that you are within Bluetooth range – up to 20 m, depending on the surroundings. Also make sure the battery is inserted and not flat. The controller must be in the same network as the luminaires you want to control, as scenes can only include luminaires from the same network.
A scene isn’t available on the controller.
The network administrator creates all scenes. If a scene is missing, ask the administrator to create it.
