The scent of light

Tohru Nakamura sees himself as a bridge builder between different culinary cultures. This endeavour to connect is expressed in his culinary compositions, which incorporate his own German-Japanese roots. The fact that his personality is reflected in every detail of his 2 Michelin-Star restaurant is part of his concept, in which nothing is left to chance. In the kitchen, the dishes are a brilliant creation of flavours and ingredients, but the perfection of the triad is the perfect visual appearance when serving. This is ensured by the light from Occhio, with maximum brilliance and a large portion of emotionality. 'A dish should tell an exciting story on the plate before the smells or flavours are perceived,' says Tohru Nakamura, who sees cooking not just as a profession but as a vocation and constantly strives to create emotions by creating a connection between the people at the table. The perfectly harmonised light becomes the moderator.

Turning the table into a stage

There is no doubt that light plays a central role in the design of Nakamura's Michelin-starred restaurant. 'It's like receiving guests at home and preparing everything perfectly,' he explains The carefully and meticulously planned lighting atmosphere changes throughout the evening, transforming the tables into different scenarios with changing menu sequences, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of well-being and enjoyment. The precisely aligned islands of light create private areas for the guests – intimate zones without spatial boundaries where they can relax in a cosy ambience. At the same time, the perfectly illuminated table becomes a prominent stage for the plate, on which the dish is displayed skilfully under the light of the pendant luminaire Sento sospeso. This precisely traces the radius of the table and emphasises the artistic, sculptural character of the food.

Fusion of time, space and the art of cookery

Michelin-starred chef Tohru Nakamura and Marc Uebelherr have joined forces with Occhio to create an extraordinary gastronomic concept in the 'Schreiberei', Munich's oldest townhouse. Each table is perfectly illuminated with the pendant luminaire Sento sospeso in order to present the dishes in a visually artistic way. The finishes of the luminaires have been carefully selected to complement the basic colours of the room and create elegant accents. The minimalist design with great impact was a key element in the shared vision for creating a unique quality of experience.

With the preservation order in mind, individual outlets for the swivelling spotlights Più alto were meticulously measured with lasers to highlight individual objects in the guest room without stealing attention from the unique corridor. The surface-mounted spotlights harmoniously complement the interior and architectural design of the Schreiberei. Finally, the mirror luminaire Mito sfera offers guests the opportunity to touch up themselves and shines like a keyhole to well-kept secrets.
