A touch of Bond: How Occhio light transforms Villa Quantum from day to night
Perched high above the sea lies the sophisticated Villa Quantum on Mallorca. Following the topography, the architecture opens up toward the sea, and generous transitions blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. As dusk falls, the light from Occhio takes center stage: it adds depth to the rooms, creates strategic accents, and carries the special atmosphere of this place into the night. In collaboration with the architectural firm Estudio Cano Arquitectura, an extraordinary estate was created in which architecture, nature, and light intertwine seamlessly.

Living between sky and sea
Estudio Cano’s architecture creates a unique living environment made of steel and concrete, where everything seems to float. Occhio’s lighting concept accompanies the shifting moods of natural light during the transitions between day and night, while providing orientation and defining the open-plan living and dining area. Above the dining table, Coro moon sospeso becomes a striking focal point, complemented by Coro moon alto above the freestanding kitchen island. With its characteristic cones of light, the io verticale wall luminaire echoes the square ceiling pattern and extends its design concept all the way to the floor.

Across rooms
Serving as both a light source and an eye-catcher, an installation consisting of 29 individually suspended Coro moon sospeso pendant luminaires connects the various levels and, as an impressive, luminous formation, gives the space a new atmospheric dimension. Achieving this effect required not only a professional eye for lighting design but also a delicate touch and technical expertise to mount the luminaires precisely within the wooden slats that form the upper edge of the striking concrete panels.

“The architecture brings plenty of natural light into the building without compromising warmth or privacy. After sunset, Occhio light takes over this role, giving the house its distinctive atmosphere. Together with Occhio, we were able to showcase the materials and architecture exactly as we had envisioned. The result is a sense of warmth and comfort that many would not initially expect from a house made of exposed concrete.”

Luna for moments of tranquility
As the day draws to a close, the night is gently ushered in. Unlike in the more representative areas of the villa, lighting in the bedroom creates subtle accents. Luna piena finds its ideal place within the recessed panels of the concrete ceiling: its light is reflected onto the ceiling, ensuring maximum glare-free illumination while effectively highlighting the fine wooden slats. The luminaire is deliberately repeated in rhythm with the ceiling grid, extending into the adjoining dressing room to create a consistent sense of calm and balance. The two table luminaires, Luna pura and Luna sogno, serve as familiar anchors within the space.

Materials in the right light
Hard concrete meets warm, inviting wood. The lighting concept reflects the high architectural standards, tracing edges, corners, and geometric forms without compromising their precision. At the same time, it brings out the warmth of the materials, making even the massive concrete structure appear softer. The ability to translate the message of the built environment into the language of light is palpable here. Architecture and light engage in a balanced dialogue – an interplay that feels so natural precisely because both elements were considered together from an early stage in the planning process.

The moon, wherever you go
The Luna pura portable luminaire also finds its place in the villa’s spacious outdoor areas. Free from a fixed location, it brings light exactly where it is needed. Enclosed in glass, the floating light source – featuring innovative Occhio fireball technology – gently brings the moon to life on the terrace during long summer evenings, extending the lighting atmosphere of the interiors into the outdoors.

Mito largo outdoor: available from spring 2027
The iconic Mito largo luminaire stands for a design that characteristically shapes its surroundings, yet never pushes itself to the forefront, instead giving the stage to what it reveals. What was once intended for indoors is now also made for outdoors: Mito largo outdoor will be available from spring 2027.

The Lighting Concept

Occhio’s lighting concept echoes the estate’s structures and extends the architectural language through light – from the large-scale Coro moon sospeso installation in the double-height space to lighting solutions precisely integrated into the architecture. In doing so, the light accentuates the building’s distinctive edges and contours, highlighting its unique character.
